7 Things I Wish I Knew Before I Started My Instagram Business Page

Back when we were still trying to figure out the world of social media, there was little to no information on the role it could play in business marketing. In the beginning, Instagram for business too was merely a way to build your follower count apart from being a place to market new services. But, trust me, it was just the start of the endless possibilities it actually holds.

The advent of new marketing tools has opened up a million new avenues to take your business up a notch using social media. Currently, Instagram is a highly sought-after platform that gives you daily access to over 1 billion active users. This means people are constantly checking their Instagram every few minutes.

Now, isn’t that all we need?

When I was a newbie, I used Instagram to merely drive traffic to websites and for promoting a new product. However now, with years of experience, I can safely say that I’ve picked up some fool-proof tips and tricks to take advantage of the hottest and easiest tools we have at our disposal. While it wasn’t all rainbows and unicorns, however, a great learning experience regardless.

Taking our experiences with Instagram into play, I have come up with 7 things I wish I knew before I started my Instagram Business Page. Tag along the list and make sure that you go off to a great start

  1. A Killer Bio= Your Knight In Shining Armour

They say that the first impression is the last impression. This holds all the more true when we’re talking about Instagram. With a short attention span, you need everything that can take advantage of those 2 seconds. So, how do we do that? Well, creating an online persona starts with a killer bio and profile, to create a lasting impression. This is something that I didn’t consider much in the beginning, and, as a result, missed opportunities.

Just like your Instagram content, your bio deserves all the love too. Why? It is essentially an introduction to who you are, what you do, and what you bring to the table. Not only that, it will help decide the action your potential consumers will take once they’ve landed on your profile. So, make it as enticing as possible to get them to follow you or even click the link to your website. 

Instagram Bio Checklist:

  1. Explain what your brand does
  2. Engage your target audience
  3. Connect with your community
  • Posting consistently is key!

Similar to real life, consistency is key on social media as well. Why, you ask? Well, audiences have a shorter attention span, so unless you appear on their feed regularly with content that is worth their while, it may be difficult for you to stay relevant. A daily publishing schedule will not only increase engagement but your organic reach too. And, who doesn’t want that, am I right?

That being said, too much of anything can ruin your efforts too, so, pushing your content on your audiences’ face won’t help your cause. Unlike what the millions of articles may lead you to believe, there’s no one specific time to post for all industries. Since, different time zones may alter the way your content reaches people, going on board with the old school trial and error method is the best way to figure out the most ideal time to publish your posts.

  • Responding To Comments Will Take You Places

Communication and social media marketing go hand in hand. Being real and responding to your consumers’ comments on your posts, is the essence of “social” networking. While you may want to automate the engagement with template responses, it won’t help, trust me!

When your followers comment on your posts, they’re trying to initiate conversations. So, make sure that you dedicate enough time to give authentic replies to people mentioning your brand. Imagine this: if someone is taking out time to comment their thoughts on your posts, your responses can be a game-changer in building a positive image for your brand. This will in turn be a path to building a powerful Instagram community.

  • Don’t Forget The Hashtags

Where there’s Instagram, there are hashtags. They are essentially a search function for Instagram to get you relevant brands and followers. Now, I don’t mean that you must go with any hashtags out there, but rather uncover niche hashtags that will expand your organic reach. You must be aware of how the Instagram algorithm can be mean to us at times; ugh, I know right? So, using a combination of trending, customized campaigns, and industry-specific hashtags will help your post reach more and more consumers every day.

While you have the option of mentioning 30 hashtags per Instagram post, it is ideal to use them to the fullest. But, not just that, the placement is just as significant: you can add them into the comment section, blend them into the actual post, or even the end of your post.

  • Engagement. Engagement. Engagement

While there’s no ring here, you may as well treat this as if it were! Let me explain it a bit. In the world of Instagram, engaging your community to interact with your posts is as essential as getting engaged to your soulmate.

Encourage your followers to post their own photos and develop an effective call to action regarding your business. The most common way to do this is #repost. Wherein, you can ask your followers to post pictures and tag your business page followed by a response and #repost from your end.

Not just this, you can try starting your own photo contests too. This has time and again proven to be the most interactive activity that gives your audience a fun way to connect with you.

  • Brand Aesthetic Will Help You More Than You Know

We talked about how a first impression is indeed the last impression when it comes to Instagram. So, you need to decide the impression you want to create on your readers when they first come to your page. Some of the most successful Instagram accounts focus on using a selective palette for their profile grid, which oozes their distinctive style.

Whether it is a consistent backdrop, a soft hue palette, or creating a visual aesthetic that instantly grabs the eye of the visitor, there are endless options for you to explore. Just remember to align your Instagram content with the brand’s overall image and colors.

  • Instagram Stories = A Powerful Tool In Disguise

While Instagram Stories may be just another way to document your everyday lifestyle for personal accounts, they carry so many more possibilities for business pages. Think of Stories as another tool to grab your reader’s attention that in turn helps you generate leads for your business.

Live for only 24 hours, the benefits of using Stories for brands are truly limitless. Without thinking too much about the brand’s aesthetic, you can post authentic behind-the-scenes posts that users don’t usually get to see amidst the high-quality content. Not, just that, you can design polls, ask questions, get questions from the users, stream live videos and so much more with Stories.

Audiences are always looking for content and businesses that they can connect with and relate to. So, instead of trying to achieve perfection, get out there and achieve organic success by building an authentic brand that people will love!
